Korea’s Literary Giant Ri Ki Yong

His literary activities began with the short story “Brother’s Secret Letter” (1924) which typically criticized the outmoded remnants and social irrationality in the realities before liberation. His novels were described sarcastically on the exploiters, looters, parasites of society, hypocrites of the exploiter society and laggards to gain wide popularity among the people at the time.
After liberation (August 15, 1945) he created many popular novels and short stories including the novel “Land” (1948-1949) under the meticulous guidance of President Kim Il Sung , which truthfully reflected the life of peasants who became the master in the building of a new country.
With the great confidence of President Kim Il Sung he took the place of chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of the Unions of Art and Literature of Korea and Vice-Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly to make a great contribution to the development of the socialist literature and art.
