Kitchen Maid Becomes Deputy

Among the deputies to the 1st Session of the 1st Supreme People’s Assembly held in September 1948 was a woman called Kim Tuk Ran from Thaechon County, North Phyongan Province.
She was born as the eighth child of a poor family in the preliberation days.
Her mother left her alone under a tree in the mountain behind the village when she was a baby. Next evening an old man of the village brought her back to her mother when she was crying under the tree.
From her childhood she suffered every kind of humiliation and insult as a kitchen maid of a landlord’s house.
It was not until the country was liberated that she came to have her own land as well as the same rights as men’s.
Kim Tuk Ran worked hard with a single heart to repay benefits of the country that provided her with a happy life.
She was grown to be a leading official of the county and elected as a deputy to the then People’s Assembly of North Korea in the first democratic election.
