11th Asia Pacific Regional Conference of IFRC was held

The 11th Asia Pacific Regional Conference of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 21st to 23rd of November 2023.
Present at the conference on the theme of “Becoming Disaster Ready in Asia Pacific” were the delegates from 44 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies from Asia Pacific and Middle East Region, IFRC and ICRC.
The Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS) delegation headed by the Secretary General participated in the conference on-line.
In the conference, successes and lessons were reviewed in the disaster response work of the past, and experiences and discussions were shared.
Hanoi Call for Action of becoming climate ready and preventing natural disasters was adopted.
In the discussion under the theme of “understand the crisis ahead of us and becoming climate ready”, the DPRK RCS delegate mentioned that activities to prepare for and respond to different types of crisis are carried out in DPRK under the coordinated leadership of the government and the DPRK RCS made strenuous efforts to give assistance to the government work as an auxiliary body of the state.
In addition, he underlined that Asia Pacific Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies should pay due attention to the enhancement of their national crisis response capacity and environment protection and green response activity to eliminate the source of natural disasters. He also expressed the determination to contribute not only to the nation-wide crisis response but also to the regional reaction.
This conference served as a significant momentum in having a new understanding of climate change seriousness and fulfilling the mission and role of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in crisis response activity.
