The DPRK specified environmental protection as a noble patriotic undertaking for the country and the nation, and is directing great efforts to it.
It has enacted several environment-related laws like the laws on environmental protection, assessment of environmental impact, national land planning, underground resources, etc. and constantly amends the existing laws to cope with emerging environmental issues.
A nationwide environmental management system has been put in place and environmental protection is being pushed ahead with in close connection with the socio-economic development.
All factories and enterprises are required to be equipped with a full set of anti-pollution facility ranging from gas purifier and dust arrester to waste water purifier.
Modern tree nurseries are built in every city, county and province to industrially provide saplings necessary for afforestation and urban ecological environment is showing a marked upward trend with the undertaking of such projects as roof-greening and vertical-greening regarding rooftops and walls of dwellings and public buildings.
Environmental protection has now become an all-people undertaking and newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and other publications are actively engaged in relevant information and publicity activities.
