Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Siberia and Far Eastern Region of Russian Federation in August 2011, last period of his life．

His visit was a historic long voyage that gave a fresh energy to the development of the traditional DPRK-Russia relations of friendship and cooperation.

The talks between the Chairman and the Russian president held in Oulan-Oude, the capital of the Republic of Bouriates of the Russian Federation, stressed the strengthening of the relations of friendship, equality and equally beneficial cooperation between the two countries based on the Korea-Russia Joint Declaration adopted in Pyongyang in 2000, the Korea-Russia Moscow Declaration in 2001 and the Korea-Russia Treaty on Friendship, Good Neighbors and Cooperation.

It exchanged the wide-ranging views on the economic cooperation and international issues and expressed the willingness of the governments of the DPRK and Russia for the establishment of fair international order.

Hassan, the border railway station of Russia, Amur, the Republic of Bouriates and to the Zabaikalsk frontier he went were overflowing with the warm cheers and feelings of reverence of the Russian people.
