President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea met more than 70 000 foreigners including heads of states, political parties and governments of many countries in his lifetime.

Ichio Asukata, former mayor of Yokohama, Japan, wrote in his article entitled “Great Magnanimity, Warm Atmosphere” about the audience with the President on May 14, 1972 as follows.
In a moment I met the President Kim Il Sung , I could have recognized that his words and manners with full of rhythms fascinate and attract the people.
His great magnanimity and generosity made the atmosphere warm.
His voice was sonorous, tender and powerful vigor and his logic was persuasive and elastic.
I felt that the level of his manner of speaking was the highest I have ever known in the world.
His personality is easy of access. His generous attitude created an atmosphere that even a man who never met the President before was able to have an unreserved conversation and a joke with him as if he met with a familiar friend.
All the members of the delegation and accompanying reporters spoke highly of it with one voice.
His great personality, attraction, persuasive power of charm and sense of trust, such disposition and traits were impressed me in my own way, but as all this was what impressed me in such a short span of time, I have to mention them no longer.
… Korean nation who has a rare leader like President Kim Il Sung is blissed indeed, I think.
