Frankly speaking we gained unexpected successes in the building of a new country with the help of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) in many aspects.
However, the President said he could not give enough assistance because of the tense situation of the country. And he slowly started to say with an explanation of the then situation.
It happened one day in January 1968.
The U.S. imperialist aggressors sent an armed spy ship “Pueblo” deep into the territorial waters of the DPRK to commit an espionage act. The ship was captured by the seamen of the heroic Korean People’s Army.
Then the U.S. imperialists arrogantly threatened to send it back at once , otherwise they would retaliate.
The U.S. imperialists with a history of aggression spanning hundreds of years have kicked up a row about their vessels detained by other countries.
So if the DPRK denied sending it back the war was inevitable.
The world was heavily shocked at the news.
The US imperialists brought about nuclear-powered carrier flotilla and destroyers and other huge armed forces to the East Sea of Korea, impelling the situation to the brink of war.
What position the DPRK would take under this situation.
The DPRK was world focus.
At that time President
Kim Il Sung said as follows in his speech:
“We do not want war, but we are not afraid of it. Our people and People’s Army will retaliate for the ‘retaliation’ of the US imperialists, we turn all-out war for all-out war.”
It was, indeed, a bombshell declaration.
The declaration struck the world with wonder.
